How did we get started?

Instead of falling into the “build it and they will come” trap, PTC Marketing wanted to be sure that if we built it, you would come.  So we partnered with Forrester Research to build our own social technographics ladder to understand how you, our customers, are using social tools. The outcome: you weren’t just ready for a social application, you were eager for it.

How does this entry accomplish our business goals?

For our customers, PlanetPTC Community is an outlet to showcase what they think is ‘cool.’ It lets them publicly share the work they create using PTC products that they would otherwise include in a “Hey, check this out!” email to their peers.  Launched in June 2010, more than 6,500 customers have registered to become members. They’ve contributed to over 3,700 Pro/ENGINEER and Mathcad discussions and shared over 200 videos showcasing their talents. In addition, members can collaborate and network with other like-minded PTC customers and those passionate about product development.  In the end, PlanetPTC Community members inspire each other.

In addition, the community energizes and organizes PTC’s global customer base and other interested product development professionals, bringing them to a centralized virtual location, where otherwise would not be logistically possible.  By enabling members with a rich social networking experience, PlanetPTC Community amplifies traditional word-of-mouth marketing, spreading the PTC brand.  Overall, PlanetPTC Community enhances the company’s reputation as a driver of open, active discussion about product development and helps to unearth customer success stories that show creative applications of our products.  These deeper insights lead to a better understanding of the needs and objectives of our customers and prospects, thus creating very powerful information for PTC management to apply to product development, marketing, sales, and PR activities.
